Job Description: We are seeking a qualified, motivated professional for the position of Accounting Clerk II.

This Accounting Clerk shall work under the guidance and in support of the Divisions of the Office of Fiscal Accounting Operations providing customer service, documenting processes, examining and verifying information for one or more customers.

Major Duties: The clerk shall be able to use subject-matter knowledge and judgment to complete assignments consisting of numerous steps that vary in nature and sequence. Typical duties include:
a. Review routine, complex and unusual documents to verify accounting data and mathematical accuracy. Determine necessary accounting transactions, enter or import data into an automated accounting system, compare transactions entered to those intended and correct erroneous entries.
b. Research and identify the proper action for accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions to ensure compliance with the applicable regulations, guidelines, and financial reporting. Perform and/or monitor these actions to ensure compliance.
c. Provide customer service to numerous callers daily. This includes providing a status of payable and receivable transactions to customer agencies and contractors.
d. Research and take corrective action as needed. Applicable solutions may be routine or highly complex.
e. Use the full functionality of personal computers and applicable software including Windows and spreadsheet packages. This also includes the ability to generate reports maintained on mainframes, personal computers, or client servers.

Qualification Criteria:
a. Knowledge of an extensive body of accounting procedures and double-entry bookkeeping techniques as related to financial transactions to understand and work with a variety of financial systems. The systems encompass budget, procurement and accounting, which involve a number of different programs and generate a variety of transactions.
b. 24 hours of college accounting courses or one to two years of experience in an accounting-related field.
c. Knowledge of accounting terminology related to an automated financial system. Knowledge of the requirements for processing accounts payable, accounts receivable and collection transactions in an automated system. This knowledge is necessary to organize data, to introduce information into the system, to detect and correct coding and similar errors, and to reintroduce rejected data.
d. Knowledge of personal computers including spreadsheet, word processing, automated financial systems databases maintained on mainframes, personal computers, or client servers.
e. Required to understand the financial transaction

Education:  AA degree in a related area (or equivalent), 24 hrs of college accounting courses or 2 to 4 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Security Clearance:  Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
