Job Description: We are seeking a qualified, motivated professional for the position of Accounting Clerk III.

This Accounting Clerk shall work under the guidance and in support of the Divisions of the Office of Fiscal Accounting Operations providing customer service, documenting processes, examining and verifying information for one or more customers.

Major Duties: The clerk shall be able to use some subject-matter knowledge and judgment to complete assignments consisting of numerous steps that vary in nature and sequence. Typical duties include:
a. Operating and maintaining the automated financial management system. This includes developing and implementing new systems, modifying existing systems, and ensuring systems are efficient, effective and in compliance with governing regulations.
b. Research complex accounting, disbursement, and other fiscal issues that require in-depth analysis, interpreting regulations from several sources and preparing well-written responses or recommendations for the Government.
c. Responsible for specific reconcilement, reports, and/or audits. This may include reconciling a variety of general ledger accounts, resolving accounting problems, and working with accounting technicians, operating accountants and systems accountants to correct problems with transactions
d. Able to discuss both orally and in writing aspects of work assignments which are significant to the Government’s decision-making.
e. Process and certify administrative receipts and disbursements. This includes researching all applicable regulations to ensure payments are appropriate, timely, and accurate.

Qualification Criteria:
a. 4-year degree in accounting; or a 4-year degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit for business law.
b. or combination of education and experience of at least 4 years in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge

Security Clearance:  Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
